Ophthalmic professionals are strongly encouraged to share their experience in practice management through writing and submitting articles to Administrative Eyecare (AE). The following guidelines are intended to help you prepare your article.

All manuscripts must be original, not published previously, and not be accepted or scheduled for future publication by another organization.
We like articles to take a practical rather than scholarly approach, and provide easily accessible information. For this reason we encourage liberal use of subheads and sidebars.
Please follow these formatting guidelines:

  • Double-space text in a standard word-processing program (such as Microsoft Word), using one-inch margins.
  • Set text in12-point Times Roman font.
  • Keep articles to the following lengths:
    • Departments*: 300 to 600 words
    • Columns*: 1,000 to 1,200 words
    • Feature articles: 1,500 to 2,000 words
    • Focus on a Practice: 400 to 600 words
    • Members on the Move: 50 to 75 words
  • Provide identifying information:
    • Your name, title, affiliation, address, phone, and email
    • Title of the article
    • Bio that includes a phone number and email and/or Web address and information that tells something about you.
    • Disclosure of any affiliation between author(s) and any commercial entity with a financial interest in the article topic
  • Include illustrations (photos, tables, charts), as appropriate, in electronic format suitable for print reproduction (e.g., TIFF, JPEG, EPS).
  • Include a statement assigning copyright to ASOA (see sample below):

I (we) hereby assign to American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators the copyright to the manuscript entitled <article title> and any supplemental tables, illustrations, or other information submitted that are intended for publication as part of or as a supplement to the article in all forms and media (whether now known or hereafter developed), throughout the world, in all languages, for the full term of copyright, effective when and if the article is accepted for publication in Administrative Eyecare. This transfer includes the right to provide the article in electronic and online forms and systems.
